The SAT exam is required for university entrance in the United States and around the world. Once you get a certain score, you can enroll in the school of your choice depending on the university's admissions criteria. University admission criteria change from year to year. The total score in the exam is 1600, each section is evaluated over 800 points.
Short for Scholastic Aptitude Test, the SAT exam is a university entrance exam designed to measure the level at which high school seniors or high school graduates can use critical thinking ability and analysis, as well as the knowledge and skills they have learned in secondary education. The SAT exam is used by most students to meet the admission requirements for American universities.
The SAT exam is administered 7 times a year in the USA, Puerto Rico and 6 times overseas. Most universities in the USA and Canada accept SAT test results. Accepted by many universities in Europe as well as the Americas, the SAT exam is a necessity for students who want to earn academic scholarships while studying at prestigious universities such as Harvard, Yale and Oxford. A good result from the SAT exam is seen as a plus in the student profile by any educational institution.
The SAT exam, organized by the College Board, consists of two separate exams, the Reasoning Test and the Subject Test. With the system that changed in 2016, you can take the SAT exam on paper or on a computer. With the year 2021, the subject and composition sections of the SAT exam have been removed.
There is no age requirement to take the SAT, but you must be a high school graduate or senior in your country. To get a good score on the SAT, you must be fluent in English. It is recommended to take the SAT exam after the Upper Intermediate level.
The international SAT exam is held in October, December, March and May. You can register for the SAT test on the College Board website, by phone, or by mail. You are required to upload a photo when registering for the SAT test. The photo is part of the exam registration and will be checked with your ID on the day of the test to ensure security. When registering for the SAT Exam, you must provide your full, legal name and other identifying information. Make sure that the information you specify is the same as the information specified in your identity.
If you are taking the SAT test outside of the United States, you may have to meet additional requirements to register for or take the test. You can register for the SAT Exam together with the practice exam.
The SAT exam consists of two separate exams, SAT 1 (Reasoning Test) and SAT 2 (Subject Test). These two exams are divided into topics in themselves.
SAT 1 Reasoning Test
The SAT 1 Reasoning Test is a multiple choice test that takes 3 hours and 45 minutes. The Reasoning Test is designed to measure the numerical and verbal ability of the student. The SAT consists of 3 sections: 1 Reasoning Test Mathematic, Critical Reading and Writing. The score of each section is scored between 200 and 800.
SAT 2 Subject Test
The SAT 2 Subject Test is a 1-hour exam consisting mostly of multiple-choice questions. The SAT 2 Subject Test is designed to measure the student's knowledge on an academic subject. The exam score is scored between 200 and 800. The subjects of the SAT 2 Subject Test are English, History, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Latin, Japanese and Chinese.
Most American universities may require at least one of the SAT tests, and more prestigious universities may require both.
After the SAT Exam, answer papers are scanned and the resulting answer file is analyzed by the system. The system takes the answer key you filled in and calculates your raw score. Since there is no penalty for guessing on the SAT test, your raw score is the number of questions you answered correctly. Your raw score is converted to a score ranging from 200 to 800 that you see in your score report.
If you have registered for the SAT test online or by mail and have created a College Board account, you will receive an email telling you how to log in to your online score report when scores are available.
Total Points and Section Ranges
Each of the SAT test assessments provides a total score report, which is the sum of the two section scores. Scores for the SAT Essay are reported separately and are not counted as part of a student's total SAT score.
SAT Total Score Range: 400-1600
SAT Section Score Range: 200-800
Cross Test Scores
Each of the assessments reports two cross-test scores: Analysis in History, Analysis in Social Studies, and Analysis in Science. These scores are calculated based on students' knowledge of texts and problems in these areas, based on questions in the Critical Reading, Writing, and Mathematic tests.
SAT Cross-Test Score Range: 10-40
Base Points
Assessments report multiple subscores for Critical Reading, Writing, and Mathematic, all ranging from 1 to 15. Base scores provide more details about student achievement.
The Critical Reading and Writing exam each add questions to two subclasses:
Command of Evidence
Words in Context
The Writing exam also provides two additional sub-reports:
Expression of Ideas
Standard English Conventions
The Mathematic Test reports three subscores:
Heart of Algebra
Problem Solving and Data Analysis
Passport to Advanced Mathematics
